about

The debut full length album from The Royal Jellies is a polished gem of pop hooks and earworm melodies. Recorded by Marty Brown (Clare Bowditch, Art of Fighting) in the summer of 2013, this consummate eight-piece Melbourne band delivers a sound that is brash, brassy and infectious; neo-vintage, modern-dapper songs textured with horns, Hammond, banjo and stride piano.

Taking that final leap of faith into the unknown, they released their debut EP in 2012 as The Royal Jelly Dixieland Band. Memorable gigs include the 2012 Port Fairy Folk Festival, Melbourne's first White Night and the St. Kilda Festival. They also recorded with ARIA award winner Clare Bowditch for her 2012 release “The Winter I Chose Happiness”, and opened for her during a tour of Australia.

The title, "Burrows St. Poolside" is both reference to a love affair with New Orleans trad-jazz, and the location in Melbourne where the title track was written on holiday. Inspired by the great songwriters and musicians past and present, including Louis Armstrong, Tom Waits, Damon Albarn, Neil Finn and Brian Wilson.

about

The Royal Jellies Melbourne, Australia

This rabble snaps a hyper-coloured homage to the polyphonic sounds of an era when jazz was king. Modern Melbourne meets the New Orleans old school - frontline horns duke-it-out while the rhythm section cooks up raucous grooves in a neo-vintage stew of pop hooks, trad jazz and straight-up songwriting. This consummate eight-piece band delivers a sound that is brash, brassy and infectious. ... more
